- •3 lb boneless pork shoulder
- •¼ cup granulated sugar
- •2 teaspoons kosher salt
- •½ teaspoon five-spice powder
- •¼ teaspoon ground white pepper
- •½ teaspoon sesame oil
- •2 tablespoons cooking wine
- •2 tablespoons Great Value Less Sodium Soy Sauce
- •2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- •3 garlic cloves, minced
- •⅛ teaspoon red food coloring
- •2 tablespoons honey
- •cooked rice, for serving
Instructions
- Cut the pork into long strips about 2 inches wide and place in a bowl or dish large enough for marinating.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the sugar, salt, five-spice powder, white pepper, sesame oil, cooking wine, Great Value Less Sodium Soy Sauce, hoisin sauce, garlic, and red food coloring.
- Set aside 2 tablespoons of the marinade, then pour the rest over the pork and turn to coat evenly. Marinate the pork in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight.
- When ready to cook the pork, preheat the oven to 275°F (135°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
- Stir the honey into the reserved marinade.
- Place the pork on the prepared baking sheet. Roast for 1 hour, basting a few times with the honey-marinade mixture. Cover with foil and bake for another 20–30 minutes, until the pork is tender.
- Remove the pork from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes, then slice and serve on a bed of rice.
