Grilled Lemonade

  • 5 whole lemons, plus 1, sliced into rounds
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, plus more for coating lemons
  • 4 cups water
  • 4 cups ice

Instructions

  • On a cutting board, halve the whole lemons crosswise and coat the cut sides with a thin layer of sugar.
  • Preheat the grill, if using, to medium-high heat. Place the lemons on the grill grates or an 11-inch (28-cm) griddle pan, cut-side down and cook for 6-8 minutes, until caramelized.
  • Remove the lemons from the griddle and let cool for 5-10 minutes.
  • Juice the lemons through a fine-mesh strainer into a half-gallon (2 liter) pitcher.
  • Add the sugar, water, sliced lemon, and ice (see Note below) and stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  • NOTE: Do not add the ice if preparing ahead of time. Add the ice immediately before serving.
  • Enjoy!
