  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.75 cups cake flour
  • 1.25 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease and flour one 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • Beat sugar and butter together in a large bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla extract. Add cocoa powder and mix until well combined.
  • Combine cake flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl; add flour mixture to butter mixture and mix until just combined. Stir in cherry pie filling. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted near the middle comes out clean, 30 to 35 minutes.
