Ingredients

  • 3 turnips, peeled and chopped
  • 1 pound bacon
  • 4 tablespoons rendered bacon fat
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar

Instructions

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add turnips; cook in boiling water until tender but still firm, 10 to 15 minutes. Drain and transfer to a serving bowl to cool.
  • Place bacon in a large skillet and cook over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Drain bacon slices on paper towels. Crumble and set aside. Reserve 4 tablespoons bacon fat.
  • Add bacon, brown sugar, and reserved bacon fat to turnips in the bowl; mix well.
